Update on School District Function during Pandemic
On-going communication is being shared with families and employees by email, the district website, and on our social media pages. Last week, the School District opened its free childcare service to families of Essential Service Workers, further expansions are being worked on. Staff have designed activities to support social distancing and additional cleaning and hygiene protocols are in place. We have created a Framework for Continuity of Learning to provide guidance to educators in finding new ways to support students and families. To view this framework click here and refer to page 3 of the agenda package. Wellness resources for families can be viewed here. Support for vulnerable students and families is being provided through counsellors, youth care workers, and other staff, as well as technological support including laptops and other devices, as well as access to low cost internet. Student Services, Indigenous Education, and School Principals are monitoring the status of students on a daily basis. Consideration is being given to potential reintegration to schools of staff and students in the coming months.
Deferring of Non-essential Items
A motion was approved at last night's Public Board meeting to defer non-emergent issues until September or until the COVID-19 pandemic period is resolved. At this time, the Board and Senior Administration need to focus on dealing with budget, students, curriculum, personnel, safety, and essential governance items.
Boundary Catchment – Steelhead Survey Results
The Board issued a survey in March regarding boundary catchments. During the April's regular Committee of the Whole meeting, the Board requested survey data results on the Steelhead responses to consider making a change for September 2020. The responses were presented to the Board at last night's meeting and the Board decided to defer discussions about changing the Steelhead catchment area until the following year (2021/22) or when the Board revisits all boundary catchments.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Committee and Board meetings will be conducted remotely. All meetings are open to the public. To receive more information about how to connect to the meetings, please call 604-814-3703 or email your request by clicking here.
