βββββββββWe are a community school with an outdoor focus
βWe just celebrated our 100th year (mostly at our current site!). We currently have approximately 130 students in six divisions ranging from Kindergarten to Grade Six. Many of our students come from our local farming community and can proudly say their grandparents or even great-βgrandparents attended our school too! Because of this long community history, Dewdney is able to draw on the wealth of historical and agricultural experience and know how from our families. It is not unusual to see a visiting goat in our kindergarten class or a class out in our wetlands looking for evidence of hibernating frogs!
Our kindergarten and grade one classes are given a lot of outside exploration time and learn how to be stewards of our land. In later grades (3-6), students still go outside each day but the outside learning is an enhancement to their lessons with most instruction beginning and ending in the classroom. Students in our older grades also learn that maintaining and cultivating our outdoor spaces teaches them how to be responsible and mindful citizens who cherish and protect the world around them.βββ
